About Tsuapa

The Tsuapa Consortium is a non-profit cooperation between online retail platforms and accredited test laboratories. Tsuapa makes it easy for online platforms to verify the compliance of the online platform with product safety regulations.

The Tsuapa Consortium is an initiative by Menno Treffers. Menno created the Qi product certification system for wireless chargers and experienced first hand the difficulty of  verifying that wireless chargers that are sold on on-line retail platforms have been certified.

Menno pioneered the use of an API (application programming interface) to verify that a product has been tested for compliance with a standard. With the Qi API, retailers can verify that products sold in their store or on their website are Qi Certified. Verification can be automated and carried out without any human interaction.

It is not only wireless chargers that can be dangerous when they have not been tested. Products in most categories need to be tested for compliance with safety regulations. USB cables can kill users with electric shock. USB chargers can catch fire. Children’s toys can be toxic or contain small parts. We believe that solution must work for all product categories – not only for wireless chargers.

The name “Tsuapa” has no intended meaning. It is a convenient code name for the initiative.
